The population of this study was the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung. The researcher took VIII B as the try-out class and VIII A as the experimental class. Reading comprehension test and was used to collect the data. The data were in the forms of scores which were taken from the pre test and post test and they were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. The result of the data analysis showed that the use of think pair share technique improved students’ reading comprehension achievement. It could be seen from the mean score of the students in the pre test and post test. In the pre test, the mean score was 57.28 and it became 71.97 in the post test. Thus, the gain was 14.69. The result of computation showed that t-ratio was higher than t-table (17.587>2.040) and the significant level was lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). It could be concluded that the use of think pair share technique is appropriate to be used in order to improve students’ achievement of reading comprehension and it can be used as an alternative technique.
