Sintesis cordierite menggunakan bahan MgO dan Al2O3 berasal dari Sigma-Aldrich sedangkan bahan silika berasal dari sekam padi yang diekstraksi dengan metode alkalis menggunakan larutan KOH 5% dan HCl 10%. Sintesis cordierite dilakukan dengan metode padatan dan disintering pada suhu 1200 oC selama 3 jam. Pengujian kekerasan menggunakan alat Microhardness Tester dan untuk mengetahui struktur fasa menggunakan XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). Pada penelitian ini diperoleh nilai kekerasan sampel C0, C20, C25, dan C30 masing-masing adalah 50,03, 52,44, 35,69, dan 50,46 Kgf/mm2. Nilai kekerasan ini semakin meningkat seiring dengan penambahan alumina. Hasil XRD menunjukkan fasa yang terbentuk yaitu cordierite, corundum, spinel, kristobalit, dan periclase. ABSTRACT The synthesis, phase structure and hardness analysis of cordierite ceramic has been done with addition of alumina 0, 20,25, 30 wt%. Magnesium and alumina from Sigma-Aldrich have been used as raw material while the silica was obtained from the extraction of rice husk used 5% KOH and 10% HCl with alkalis method. This cordierite synthesis used solid-state method and sintered at 1200 oC for 3 hours. Hardness analysis was determined by Microhardness tester while the phase structure was determined by XRD (X-Ray Diffraction). Hardness value that obtained for C0, C20, C25, and C30 were 50.03, 52.44, 35.69, and 50.46 Kgf/mm2 repeatedly. It was proved that excess alumina will increase the hardness value. The XRD patterns revealed that cordierite, corundum, spinel cristoballite, and periclase were formed in the samples. Keyword: Cordierite, Rice Husk Silica, Hardness, Phase Structure.
