"Pemakaian batubara sebagai sumber energi pada pembangkit listrik ataupun industri lainnya mengakibatkan timbulnya limbah padat, yaitu berupa fly ash (abu terbang) dan bottom ash (abu dasar). Salah satu cara pemanfaatan limbah batubara adalah dengan memanfaatkannya sebagai bahan bangunan. Pada penelitian ini, limbah batubara (bottom ash) dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan pengganti sebagian pasir pada bahan bangunan berupa bata beton berlubang.\r\nPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh dari pemanfaatan bottom ash dalam bata beton berlubang terhadap kuat tekan dan daya serap air bata beton berlubang, serta mengetahui persentase optimum bottom ash dalam pencampuran bata beton berlubang. Perbandingan komposisi campuran antara semen dan pasir yang digunakan adalah 1 : 5, sedangkan variasi penggunaan bottom ash yang digunakan dalam campuran adalah sebesar 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% dan 30% dari berat pasir.\r\nHasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bata beton berlubang dengan komposisi bottom ash dalam campuran sebesar 25% dari berat pasir, menghasilkan kuat tekan optimum, yakni 45,46 kg/cm² untuk umur 28 hari dan 48,58 kg/cm² untuk umur 56 hari. Kedua bata beton berlubang tersebut masuk dalam kelas mutu II SNI 03-0349-1989. Untuk hasil uji penyerapan air, menunjukkan bahwa penyerapan air bata beton berlubang masuk ke dalam mutu II SNI 03-0349-1989, besar kecilnya penyerapan air dipengaruhi oleh nilai kuat tekan bata beton berlubang.\r\nKata kunci : bata beton berlubang, bottom ash, kuat tekan, daya serap air (The use of coal as an energy source in power plants or other industries might result emerge of solid waste, in the form of fly ash and bottom ash. One way to utilize the use of coal waste is by using it as building material. In this study, coal waste (bottom ash) is used as a partial replacement of sand in construction materials such as hollow bricks.\r\nThis study aimed to determine the effect of the utilization of bottom ash in hollow brick toward the compressive and water absorption strength of hollow brick, as well as to determine the optimum percentage of bottom ash in the mixing of hollow brick. The comparison of the mixture composition of cement and sand used is 1: 5, whereas variations in the usage of bottom ash used in the mixture is at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25% and 30% of the weight of the sand.\r\nThe results showed that the hollow brick in a mixture with 25% bottom ash composition of the weight of the sand, produce the optimum compressive strength, 45.46 kg / cm ² for 28 days old and 48.58 kg / cm ² for 56 days old.
