Penggunaan timer memiliki beberapa kekurangan salah satunya adalah pemberian larutan nutrisi yang tidak efisien/boros. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang sistem hidroponik pasang surut otomatis untuk menghidupkan dan mematikan pompa pemberian nutrisi berdasarkan kadar air media tanam dengan mikrokontroler. Penelitian dilakukan di Greenhouse Laboratorium Terpadu Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Lampung pada bulan April – Juni 2014. Prosedur pembuatan alat diawali dengan kalibrasi alat, perancangan sistem alat, rangkaian catu daya, uji kinerja alat dan uji tanaman. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa telah terealisasi rancangan sistem hidroponik pasang surut otomatis berdasarkan kadar air media tanam. Nilai kendali kadar air untuk pompa hidup pada ≤ 34,95% dan pompa mati pada ≥ 69,83%. Uji budidaya tanaman cabai pada sistem hidroponik pasang surut otomatis lebih baik daripada pada sistem manual, terlihat dari hasil tinggi tanaman dan jumlah daun. Kata kunci: hidroponik, sistem pasang surut, mikrokontroler, kadar air ABSTRACT Ebb and flow hydroponic system generally used a timer to control nutrient addition. The use of the timer, however has major disadvantage including inefficiency of nutrient usage. This research aimed at designing of ebb and flow automatic hydroponic system which able to turn on/off the pump based on the moisture content using microcontroller. The research was conducted at Greenhouse Facility of the Integrated Field Lab of Agriculture School, the University of Lampung from April - June 2014. The procedure begins with the manufacture of instrument, calibration, system design tool, the power supply circuit, equipment test and field test. The results showed that has been successfully realized automatic ebb and flow hydroponic system working based on the moisture content. The value of setting point obtained for controling water content for turning on the pump was ≤ 34.95% and turning off the pump was ≥ 69.83%. Cultivation test using chilli pepper resulted that automatic ebb and flow hydroponic system was significally better than manually system one, in terms of plant height and number of leaves.
