Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui bagaimana identitas metalhead
terkonstruksi di dalam komunitas metal dan bagaimana para metalhead memaknai
metalhead. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan teknik
purposive dan wawancara mendalam kepada tiap informan. Hasil penelitian ini
diketahui bahwa identitas metalhead terbentuk karena adanya kesamaan sejarah
yang pernah dialami. Selain itu, kesamaan kegemaran mereka terhadap musik
metal juga membangun identitas mereka sebagai seorang metalhead. Hal tersebut
terjadi karena masing-masing mereka memiliki cara pandang yang sama terhadap
musik metal dan tidak peduli ketika mereka dipandang berbeda oleh orang lain.
Para metalhead memaknai metalhead itu sebagai sebuah solidaritas yang
nantinya akan menghasilkan sikap kekeluargaan dan persaudaraan yang dijunjung
tinggi oleh mereka. Selain itu, para metalhead memaknai menjadi seorang
metalhead itu jujur, keras dan tegas dalam mengkritik fenomena yang terjadi di
lingkungan mereka, mandiri dalam melakukan setiap aktivitas yang dilakukan
untuk perkembangan scene metal di Indonesia. Peduli satu sama lain juga
merupakan makna menjadi metalhead. Dengan menjadi metalhead mereka
dibangun untuk menjadi pribadi yang peduli sesama serta saling menghargai satu
sama lain serta metalhead orang-orang yang dapat berpikir kreatif dan inovatif.

This research was conducted to determine how metalhead identity
constructed within metal community and how metalhead interpret themselves as a
metalhead. This research using qualitative methods by using purposive and in- depth interviews to each informant. Results of this research note that identity of
metalhead formed because of the common history has ever experienced. In
addition, the similary of their penchant for metal music also establish their
identity as a metalhead. This happen because each of them have the same
outlook for metal music and do not care when they are viewed differently by
others.
The Metalheads interpret metalhead as solidarity which will produce a
fraternal and brotherhood upheld by them. In addition, the metalheads interpret of
being a metalhead is honest, hard and firm in criticizing the phenomena that occur in
their environment, independent ini performing any activity undertaken for the
development of metal scene in Indonesia. Care for each other is also a means to be a
metalhead. By being a metalhead, they are built to be a private matter neighbor and
respect for one another as well as a metalhead people who can think creatively and
innovatively.
