Minyak mineral berasal dari hasil tambang dan tidak dapat diperbaharui. Bahan isolasi alternatif JMEO yang berasal dari biji jarak pagar mulai dikembangkan. Penelitian ini mencakup studi mengenai sifat fisik dari JMEO dan MO dengan pamanasan paksa selama 38 hari bersama isolasi kertas. Pemanasan paksa 120 0C ± 10% dilakukan agar waktu pemburukan menjadi lebih cepat. Uji viskositas mengacu pada standar ASTM-D444, acidity number ASTM-D974, FTIR, perubahan warna dan uji tensile strength ASTM-E8/EM8. Hasil uji nilai viskositas MO relatif stabil 9,2-12 mm2 /cSt dan JMEO mengalami perubahan yang signifikan dari 12,9-34,8 mm2 /cSt. Nilai acidity number pada sampel 18 hari yaitu JMEO 2,26 mg KOH/g, MO 0,30 mg KOH/g dan sampel 38 hari yaitu JMEO 3,41 mg KOH/g, MO 0,57 mg KOH/g. Sementara nilai acidity number sebelum pemanasan yaitu JMEO 0,07 mg KOH/g dan MO 0,01 mg KOH/g. Spektrum FTIR JMEO dan MO memiliki kemiripan namun pada JMEO muncul variasi ikatan C=0 (trigliserida/ester) sementara MO terdapat variasi ikatan N-H. Isolasi kertas terendam MO memiliki warna yang lebih gelap jika dibandingkan dengan terendam JMEO dan tidak terendam. Nilai tensile strength terendam JMEO 38,143 MPa, MO 21,961 MPa dan tidak terendam 44,243 MPa. Mineral oils derived from mining and they are non-renewable. On the other hand, JMEO alternative insulation materials derived from the seeds of Jatropha. This research covers the study of the physical properties of JMEO + paper insulation and MO + paper insulation with forced heating for 38 days. Forced heating of 120 0C ± 10% is done so that the deterioration time becomes faster. Viscosity test refers to the standard ASTM-D444, acidity number ASTM-D974, FTIR, discoloration and tensile strength test ASTM-E8/EM8. The test results show that the average viscosity values of MO are relatively stable at 9.2-12 mm2 /cSt while the viscosity of JMEO increases significantly from 12.9 mm2 /cSt to 34.8 mm2 /cSt. The acidity number of JMEO and MO in the 18-day of forced heating are 2.26 mg KOH/g and 0.30 mg KOH/g respectively. These acidity numbers increase to 3.41 mg KOH/g and 0.57 mg KOH/g for JMEO and MO repectively in 38 days of forced heating. While before heating, the acidity number of JMEO and MO are 0.07 mg KOH/g and 0.01 mg KOH/g. The FTIR spectrum of JMEO and MO are similar but in the spectrum of JMEO appears C=0 (triglyceride/ester) bond, while in that of MO appears N-H bond. Paper insulation submerged in MO has a darker color than in JMEO which is similar with the new paper insulation. The tensile strength of paper insulation submerged in JMEO and MO are 38,143 MPa and 21,961 MPa respectively, while the tensile strength of new paper insulation is 44,243 MPa.
