"The aims of this research were to find out if mind mapping technique could\r\nimprove the students’ ability in writing report text and to find out which aspect of\r\nwriting improved the most after they were taught by using mind mapping\r\ntechnique.\r\nThe approach of the research was quantitative. The subjects of the research were\r\n33 students of XI IPA 5 class at SMA Negeri 3 Bandar Lampung in 2018/2019\r\nacademic year. In this research, the researcher administered five meetings. The\r\nbeginning of the meeting, the researcher conducted the pretest to find out the\r\nstudents’ initial ability in writing report text. Then, the researcher had three time\r\nmeetings of the treatments. At the end of the meeting, the researcher conducted the\r\npost test to find out the students’ writing ability after doing the treatments which\r\nused mind mapping technique. The result of the students’ writing test was\r\nmeasured in terms of content, organization,vocabulary, language use, and\r\nmechanic. The data were analyzed by using Paired Sample t-test in which the\r\nsignificance was determined by sign < 0.05.\r\nThe result of the research showed that there was an increase of the students’\r\nability in writing report text from the pre test to the post test after being taught\r\nthrough mind mapping technique. The result of computation shows that the value\r\nof one tailed significance was 0.000. It means H1 was accepted since 0.000 < 0.05.\r\nThe mean score of the pretest was 62.75 and the mean score of the posttest was\r\n68.28. The increase of the mean score of the pretest and the posttest was 5.53. The\r\nincrease included all aspects of writing and the first aspect that improved the most\r\nis content (2.28). The second is mechanic (0.37) then organization (1.02),\r\nvocabulary (0.94), and language use (0.93).
