"The aim of the study was to find out the effect of brainstorming\r\ntechnique on the students’ writing achievement. This research was\r\nconducted through a quantitative approach with one group pre-test\r\nand post-test design.\r\nThe subject of the research were 33 students of X MIA 3 class at\r\nSMA Negeri 1 Pringsewu in 2018/2019 academic year. In this\r\nresearch, the researcher administered four meetings. The beginning\r\nof the meeting, the researcher conducted the pre-test to find out the\r\nstudents’ initial ability in writing descriptive text. Then, the\r\nresearcher had two time meetings of the treatments. At the end of\r\nthe meeting, the researcher conducted the post test to find out the\r\nstudents’ writing ability after having the treatments which used\r\nbrainstorming technique. The result of the students’ writing test\r\nwas measured in terms of content, organization, grammar,\r\nvocabulary, and mechanic. The data were analyzed by using Paired\r\nSample t-test in which the significance was determined by sign <\r\n0.05.\r\nThe result showed that there was a statistically significant\r\ndifference of the students’ writing ability between the pre-test and\r\nthe post-test with the significant level of 0.05. This suggests that\r\nbrainstorming technique facilitates the students to improve their\r\nability in writing skills. Therefore the hypotheses of the research\r\nwhich stated that there are some positive effects of brainstorming\r\ntechnique on the students writing achievement in five aspects of\r\nwriting; content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanic\r\nwas accepted. The mean score of pre-test was 62.48 and the mean\r\nscore of post-test was 73.50. It means that the students’ mean score\r\nimproved about 11.02. Form each aspect of writing, the aspect that\r\nimprove the most was organization from 33.33 to 52.73. The score\r\nis increased by 19.4. Based on the findings, it can be concluded\r\n\r\nii\r\n\r\nthat brainstorming technique gave some positive effects on\r\nstudents’ writing achievement.\r\nKeywords: writing, writing ability, brainstorming technique."^^ .
