abstract: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hipotesis Environmental Kuznet Curve
(EKC) dan menguji pengaruh Kemiskinan (POV), Pertumbuhan Penduduk (POP)
dan Ketimpangan Distribusi Pendapatan (GINI) terhadap Degradasi Kualitas Air di
Pulau Sumatera Tahun 2011-2017. Data cross section merupakan data sepuluh
Provinsi di Pulau Sumatera dan data time series merupakan data dari tujuh tahun
yakni 2011-2017. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Generalizes Least Square
(GLS). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa secara teori, hipotesis
Environmental Kuznet Curve (EKC) tidak terbukti dan berlaku di Pulau Sumatera
Tahun 2011-2017. Sedangkan untuk Kemiskinan (POV), Pertumbuhan Penduduk
(POP) berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap Degradasi Kualitas Air, kecuali
untuk Ketimpangan Distribusi Pendapatan (GINI) dalam penelitian ini berpengaruh
negatif dan tidak signifikan terhadap Degradasi Kualitas Air. Model data panel
terbaik dan efisien yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah random effect model
(REM).

Kata Kunci : EKC, Degradasi Kualitas Air, GLS.



This Study aims to analyze the hypothesis of the Environmental Kuznet Curve
(EKC) and the hypothesis testing the influence of Poverty (POV), Population
Growth (POP) and Inequality of Income Distribution (GINI) on Water Quality
Degradation in Sumatera Island 2011-2017. Cross section data is the data of ten
provinces in Sumatera Island and time series data is from seven years, 2011-2017.
This research uses the Generalized Least Square (GLS) method. The results of this
study indicate that in the theory, the hypothesis of The Environmental Kuznet Curve
(EKC) was not proven and valid in Sumatera Island 2011-2017. While for Poverty
(POP), Population Growth (POP), has a positive and significant effect on Water
Quality Degradation, except for Inequality of Income Distribution (GINI) in this
study which has a negative and not significant effect on Water Quality Degradation.
The best and efficient panel data model used in this study is the random effect model
(REM).
