Kata kunci: Hardening, pre-heating, quenching, ferrit, martensit Research has been carried out related to the analysis of the effect of the concentration salt solution (NaCl) during the quenching on hardness and microstructure of ST 37 (C = 0, 303 %) carbon steel. This research was conducted by using the hardening method with pre-heating at 600 oC for 30 minutes and austenizing at 850oC for 25 minutes. Furthermore, the samples were quenched in salt solution media of 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15%. By testing using the Spark-OES method, it is known that the sample has a carbon element concentration of 0.303%. In the research, it was found that the concentration of salt solution had an effect of 71.73% to the hardness and 45,03% to the toughness of medium carbon steel. In addition, the hardening process resultes in a phase transformation from ferrite (?) and pearlite to martensite.
