"Reading is one of the main language skills learners acquire and it’s affected by\r\nlearners’ learning styles. Learning style is a student’s consistent way of\r\nresponding and absorbing the learning. By reading the students will get much\r\ninformation and knowledge that is very useful for them in learning process. In the\r\nprocess of teaching reading, teaching strategy should be able to encourage\r\nstudents' reading achievement. Therefore, the objectives of this research were to\r\n1) investigate the students' reading comprehension by using THIEVES strategy. 2)\r\nto reveal the difference of students' reading across their learning style. 3) to know\r\nthe students' perception of the strategy used. This research was conducted at\r\nMTsN 2 Bandar Lampung with one class as the sample of the research that\r\nconsisted of 20 students. This research used mix method because it is intended to\r\ncollect both quantitative and qualitative data. To collect those quantitative data,\r\nthe researcher used both pre- test and post- test. Then the qualitative data by using\r\ninterview. Paired Sample T-test and Independent Group T-test were used to\r\nanalyze the data. The analysis showed that there was improvement of students'\r\nmean score from 63,00 to 81,25 after they used THIEVES strategy with sig\r\n2tailed 0.000 ≤ α=0.05). It means that THIEVES strategy was effective to push\r\nthe students to comprehend in reading. It was also found that the result of\r\nstudents' posttest in visual and auditory group have the level of significance of\r\n0.386 > α=0.05. Those indicate that there were no significant differences on\r\nstudents' reading with different learning styles. The result of qualitative data\r\nshowed that 5 of 6 learners who had high gained score had positive perception\r\ntoward the use of THIEVES strategy in learning reading. Further, only 1 of 6\r\nlearners who had little gained score had negative perception toward it. From those\r\nfindings, it can be concluded that the use of THIEVES strategy could improve the\r\nlearners’ achievement in reading and give perceptions positively and negatively,\r\nand those perceptions could also effect on learners’ score.\r\nKeywords: THIEVES Strategy, Reading Comprehension, Learning Styles,\r\nPerception.\r\n"^^ .
