"\r\n\r\nDealing with the rapid development of technology, teachers are possible to use social\r\nmedia as their learning media. In relation with this, instagram as one of the most used\r\nsocial media has often been modified from its original use as entertainment tool to\r\neducational tool, especially in teaching writing. In doing this, teachers need to do their\r\nteaching learning process using an appropriate learning theory as the framework, that is\r\nTechnological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). This study focused on\r\nmodifying the use of instagram based on TPACK theory to increase students’ ability in\r\nwriting cutline caption. The researcher did a research to find out whether the use of\r\ninstagram based on TPACK theory can increase students’ ability in writing cutline\r\ncaption or not. Also, the second objective of the research is to find out the writing aspect\r\nwhich has the lowest and the highest increase among five writing aspects namely\r\norganization, content, grammar, vocabulary and mechanic. This research is quantitative\r\nresearch where the researcher used one group pretest posttest design and one class from\r\n12 grade students of SMAN 1 Jatiagung South Lampung as the sample of the research.\r\nThe data was collected by doing pretest, treatment, and posttest. In the posttest, researcher\r\nasked the students to write a caption based on their own photo and upload it in their\r\ninstagram account. The result indicates that the use of instagram based on TPACK theory\r\ncan increase students’ ability in writing cutline caption. The result also shows that the\r\naverage of five writing aspects increase well from pretest to posttest, for example\r\norganization (10.57 to 14.98), content (11.4 to 15.9), grammar (13.85 to 20.82),\r\nvocabulary (13.24 to 17.17), and mechanic (6.57 to 7.35). Thus, the highest increase is in\r\ngrammar aspect and the lowest increase is in mechanic aspect. From those results, it is\r\nconcluded that the use of instagram based on TPACK theory can significantly increase\r\nstudents’ ability in writing cutline caption, mainly in some aspects of writing.
