The subjects of this research were the 11 grade students of SMA N 5 Bandar Lampung. There are 30 students in the experimental class and 20 students in the control class who enroll this experimental research design. There were given the treatment namely (modified roundtable technique) for the experimental class and (original roundtable technique) for the control class. There were then distributed the questionnaire sheet to draw the motivation regarding the use of modified roundtable technique and original roundtable technique. The data were obtained from the pre- test, post-test, and questionnaire. Independent group t-test in SPSS (Statistical Program for Social Science) was used to analyze the data. The first finding (1) shows that there is a significant difference in the writing ability between students who were taught with the Modified Roundtable Technique and the Original Roundtable Technique. The significant level of both groups was 0.000. It means that 0.000 was lower than 0.05. The second finding (2), the result shows that the students have very high motivation in experimental class, while in control class has a medium motivation. Furthermore, the use of Modified Roundtable Technique in teaching writing was regarded as being more effective to encourage students to be involved in the process of teaching learning activities than the use of Original Roundtable Technique.
