MELALUI MODIFIKASI PANAS OIL HEAT TREATMENT

Tingginya permintaan pertukangan dan maraknya penggundulan hutan juga
menyebabkan kelangkaan bahan baku untuk industri perkayuan. Kayu jabon memiliki
potensi besar sebagai jenis tanaman cepat tumbuh yang dapat dipanen dengan cepat
pada umur 5 tahun. Sebagian besar kayu cepat tumbuh umumnya memiliki kualitas
yang rendah, oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan modifikasi panas menggunakan oil heat
treatment untuk meningkatkan kualitas kayu tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah
untuk mengetahui pengaruh temperatur perlakuan panas minyak terhadap perubahan
kualitas sifat fisik dan mekanik kayu jabon. Oil heat treatment (OHT) dilakukan
dengan durasi 4 jam dengan perlakuan suhu 170°C, 190°C, 210°C. OHT dapat
mengubah warna kayu jabon secara keseluruhan dan meningkatkan kualitas warna
kayu jabon menjadi lebih gelap sesuai selera masyarakat. Terjadi peningkatan sifat
mekanik kekerasan kayu jabon yang meningkat secara signifikan pada suhu 170°C dan
210°C.

The high demand for carpentry and rampant deforestation have also led to a
scarcity of raw materials for the timber industry. Jabon wood has great potential as a
fast growing species which can be harvested quickly at the age of 5 years. Most of the
fast growing wood generally has low quality, therefore it is necessary to do heat
modification using oil heat treatment to improve the quality of the wood. The purpose
of this study was to determine the effect of oil heat treatment temperature on changes
in the quality of the physical and mechanical properties of jabon wood. OHT was
carried out at a duration of 4 hours with a temperature treatment of 170°C, 190°C,
210°C. Oil heat treatment (OHT) can change the overall color of jabon wood and
improve the quality of the color of jabon wood to be darker according to people's tastes.
There was an increase in the mechanical properties of the hardness of jabon wood
which increased significantly at 170°C and 210°C.
