N2  - Populasi gajah sumatera mengalami penurunan drastis akibat perubahan dan pergeseran habitat gajah. Upaya pelestarian gajah sumatera dapat dilakukan dengan adanya kegiatan konservasi. Pusat Latihan Gajah Taman Nasional Way Kambas merupakan salah satu upaya konservasi untuk mengatasi masalah ini. Namun, sebagai lembaga konservasi, kesejahteraan gajah sumatera harus diperhatikan berdasarkan prinsip kesejahteraan satwa. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk menganalisis kondisi gajah sumatera di PLG TNWK berdasarkan prinsip bebas dari rasa kelaparan dan kehausan, bebas dari ketidaknyamanan suhu dan fisik, bebas dari rasa sakit, penyakit dan luka, bebas dari rasa takut dan tertekan, serta bebas untuk bertingkah laku normal. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Pusat Latihan Gajah Taman Nasional Way Kambas pada bulan Januari 2023 sampai Februari 2023. Metode yang digunakan adalah studi pustaka, observasi lapang, dan kuesioner terhadap 30 responden. Analisis data dengan mendeskripsikan kesesuaian pengelolaan dan kemudian dihitung berdasarkan penilaian kesejahteraan satwa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 33 individu gajah sumatera dengan capaian implementasi kesejahteraan gajah di PLG TNWK memiliki skor sebesar 3,80. Hal ini menunjukan bahwa dari lima aspek kesejahteraan satwa gajah sumatera di PLG TNWK ini sudah berjalan dengan baik.

The population of sumatran elephants has experienced a drastic decline due to changes and shifts in elephant habitats. Conservation efforts can be made to preserve the sumatran elephants, and the Elephant Training Center in Way Kambas National Park is one such effort to address this problem. However, as a conservation institution, the welfare of the sumatran elephants must be considered based on the principle of animal welfare. The aim of this research is to analyze the condition of sumatran elephants at the Elephant Training Center Way Kambas National Park based on the principles of freedom from hunger and thirst, freedom from discomfort due to temperature and physical conditions, freedom from pain, injury, and disease, freedom from fear and distress, and the freedom to express normal behavior. This research was conducted at the Elephant Training Center in Way Kambas National Park from January 2023 to February 2023. The methods used were literature review, field observation, and questionnaire to 30 respondents. Data analysis was carried out by describing the suitability of management and then calculated based on the assessment of animal welfare. The results showed that there were 33 individual sumatran elephants with the achievement of implementing elephant welfare in the WKNP PLG with a score of 3.80. This indicates that of the five aspects of animal welfare, the Sumatran elephant welfare in the Elephant Training Center in Way Kambas National Park is already well-established.
