abstract: Film Promising Young Woman sepanjang alur ceritanya menggambarkan sesuatu
yang sederhana, yaitu balas dendam. Balas dendam dalam film tersebut dilakukan
dalam rangka memberi pelajaran terhadap pelaku kekerasan seksual. Film ini
menceritakan kehidupan Cassie Thomas (Carey Mulligan), seorang mahasiswa
fakultas kedokteran yang berhenti sekolah dan bekerja sebagai pelayan di sebuah
kafe kecil. Cassie memilih untuk mengorbankan masa depannya untuk
membalaskan dendam kepada pelaku dan semua orang yang terlibat dalam kasus
pemerkosaan sahabatnya, Nina. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui bagaimana
representasi perjuangan perempuan di film Promising Young Woman. Penelitian
menerapkan analisis semiotik Roland Barthes yang menerangkan dan mengartikan
bagaimana arti konotatif, denotatif, dan mitos pada Film Promising Young Woman.
Peneliti menfokuskan analisis pada adegan-adegan dalam film yang meliputi
karakter tokoh, latar, dan dialog dalam film Promising Young Woman yang
merepresentasikan Perjuangan Perempuan yang dihasilkan dari sumber data primer
dan sekunder. Hasil penelitian menemukan bagaimana pesan-pesan perjuangan
perempuan dalam melawan ketidakadilan gender akibat sistem patriarki di
masyarakat. Berdasarkan pada hasil analisis yang telah peniliti lakukan terhadap
adegan-adegan dalam Film Promising Young Woman Perjuangan perempuan
tersebut direpresentasikan dengan sulitnya perempuan mencari keadilan untuk
korban pemerkosaan di tengah-tengah stereotip negatif terhadap perempuan.
Strereotipe negatif terhadap perempuan mengakibatkan masyarakat sulit menerima
pengakuan perempuan sebagai korban pemerkosaan dan cenderung menyalahkan
perempuan atas peristiwa yang menimpanya. Perempuan seringkali mengorbankan
sesuatu yang besar untuk mendapat sebuah keadilan.

The film Promising Young Woman throughout its storyline depicts something
simple, namely revenge. Revenge in the film is carried out in order to teach a lesson
to perpetrators of sexual violence. This film tells the life of Cassie Thomas (Carey
Mulligan), a medical student who dropped out of school and works as a waitress in
a small cafe. Cassie chooses to sacrifice her future to take revenge on the
perpetrator and everyone involved in the rape case of her best friend, Nina. This
research aims to find out how women's struggles are represented in the film
Promising Young Woman. The research applies Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis
which explains and interprets the connotative, denotative and mythical meanings
of the film Promising Young Woman. The researcher focused the analysis on scenes
in the film which include the characters, setting and dialogue in the film Promising
Young Woman which represents the Women's Struggle which was produced from
primary and secondary data sources. The results of the research found how
women's struggle messages against gender injustice due to the patriarchal system
in society. Based on the results of the analysis that researchers have carried out on
the scenes in the film Promising Young Woman, women's struggles are represented
by the difficulty of women seeking justice for rape victims amidst negative
stereotypes towards women. Negative stereotypes against women make it difficult
for society to accept women's claims as rape victims and tend to blame women for
what happened to them. Women often sacrifice something big to get justice.
