The research was a quantitative approach. The design used in this research was One group Pre-test and Post-test. While the sample consisted of 30 students in X. 6 of SMA Negeri 1 Banjar Agung. The instrument was a writing test. The data were in the form of scores taken from the pre-test and post-test. The results showed that students’ writing score gain was 16.89 from 54.09 in pre-test to 70.98 in post-test. The significance was analyzed by using a Paired Sample t-test. The result showed that the p-value score was 0.00 which means that there was significant improvement of students’ writing ability in descriptive text since p-value <0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Expansion Drilling Technique has improved students’ writing ability in the first grade of senior high school.
