The method used is quasi-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The population of the study consisted of 140 students at SMP IT Fitrah Insani Bandar Lampung, with three classes in the second grade. One class, Class VIII C, comprising 31 students, was selected as the sample for the implementation of the short story-based instruction. Data were collected through a pre-test conducted before the application of short stories in vocabulary teaching and a post-test after the application of short stories to see the improvement the data word analysis. Using a Paired Sample t-test. The results showed that the pre-test score was 47.63, and the post-test was 73.43, increasing 25.8 points. The t-test showed there is a significant improvement because 0.001 {\ensuremath{<}} 0.05, indicating that the improvement is statistically significant. In conclusion, the use of short stories is effective in improving students' vocabulary.
