%X Ekspresi gender karakter emosi dalam film “Inside Out 2” dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure dan teori gender performatif Judith Butler. Film animasi sebagai media komunikasi massa memiliki kekuatan dalam membentuk persepsi dan konstruksi sosial mengenai identitas gender, termasuk melalui representasi karakter. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik observasi terhadap aspek visual, verbal, dan non-verbal karakter dalam film. Analisis dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasi tanda-tanda visual seperti warna tubuh, pakaian, riasan wajah, dan tatanan rambut, aspek verbal seperti dialog dan suara, serta aspek non-verbal seperti gestur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekspresi gender dalam film “Inside Out 2” tidak sepenuhnya mengikuti stereotip maskulin dan feminin yang konvensional. Beberapa karakter menampilkan ekspresi gender yang fleksibel atau androgini, sementara lainnya merepresentasikan stereotip tradisional. Dengan menerapkan konsep penanda dan petanda dari Saussure serta hubungan sintagmatik dan paradigmatik, ditemukan bahwa konstruksi gender dalam film ini merupakan hasil dari proses simbolik yang kompleks dan bersifat performatif. Film ini secara tidak langsung menyampaikan bahwa emosi tidak memiliki batasan gender yang tetap, melainkan merupakan bagian dari ekspresi identitas yang dapat dikonstruksi secara sosial. Gender Expression of Emotion Characters in the Film Inside Out 2 Using Ferdinand de Saussure's Semiotic Approach and Judith Butler's Performativity Theory Animated films, as a form of mass communication media, have the power to shape public perceptions and social constructions of gender identity, including through the representation of characters. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with observation techniques focusing on visual, verbal, and non-verbal aspects of the characters in the film. The analysis identifies visual signs such as body color, clothing, facial makeup, and hairstyles; verbal aspects such as dialogue and voice; and non-verbal aspects such as gestures. The results show that gender expression in Inside Out 2 does not entirely follow conventional masculine and feminine stereotypes. Some characters display flexible or androgynous gender expressions, while others represent traditional stereotypes. By applying Saussure's concepts of signifier and signified as well as syntagmatic and paradigmatic relations, the study finds that gender construction in the film is a result of a complex symbolic process and is performative in nature. The film indirectly conveys that emotions do not have fixed gender boundaries but are part of identity expressions that can be socially constructed.
