Those aspects made present continuous tense was boring and confusing to be learnt by students. This research was quantitative research based on experimental method. In conducting the research, the researcher used one group pretest posttest design. The objective of this research are to see whether there is a significant improvement of students’ ability in present continuous tense after being taught through simple sentence exercise by using pictures. The population of the research was the first year of SMPN 22 Bandar Lampung in the academic year of 2010/2011. Class VIIA was chosen as experimental class. In collecting the data, the researcher administrated the pretest, three time treatments, and posttest. The pretest was given to know is there any significant improvement of students’ ability in present continuous tense after they are taught by means of simple sentence exercises by using pictures. The data was analyzes by using repeated measures T-test. In which the significance was determined by p<0.05. The total of pretest is 60,35 and in posttest the total score is 89,62, and the gain is 29,27. The result of T-test computation shows that t-ratio is higher than t- table, that is (25.118>2.021). The hypothesis test showed the value of two tail significant was (2-tailed) value was 0.000(p<0.05, p=0.000)The result showed that there was significant difference of students’ ability in present continuous tense after they are taught by means of simple sentence exercises using pictures.
