ARABIC – LATIN INDONESIAN WEB-BASED
(CASE STUDY QURAN 30TH JUZ)Transliteration is copying with changing a letter to another letter or can be called
over the alphabet (Romanization), while Transcription is the copying of the letters
that are adapted to the pronunciation or also called over the sound. Indonesia is a
country with Muslim majority and the Quran as it’s the Holy Book which was
written in Arabic. Transliteration and Transcription of the Arabic alphabet to the
Latin alphabet can be utilized and developed into a web-based system that can be
used as a medium of learning to read Quran. The replacement of the Arabic
alphabet into Latin letter is based on the Arabic-Latin transliteration guidelines
that refer to Joint Decree of The Ministry of Religious Affairs and The Ministry of
Education and Culture Republic of Indonesia, dated January 22, 1988 No.
158/1987 and 0543b/U/1987. Transcription process is based on Tajwid or
recitation of the Quran. The difference from the results of transliteration and
transcription in this system can be seen in the verse/ word like " من قبل " where the
results obtained from the transliteration is "min qabli", while the results of
Transcription is "ming qabli".
