berpotensi dimanfaatkan menjadi pupuk.
dilakukan proses pengolahan limbah lanjutan.

abstract
Liquid waste of tofu processing industry contains organic matter. Disposing the
liquid waste without prior proper treatment will potentially pollute the
environment. High containing liquid wastes are typically treated biologically.
Biofilter is a waste treatment technology which make use of microorganisms
cultured on a medium or attached to the surface of the media. Phosphate rock can
be useful to be a filter medium for waste treatment. In addition to be used as the
medium for microbes to attach, the spent phosphate rock can be potentially
utilized as the raw material of phosphate fertilizer production, in that the acidic
liquid waste is able to increase the solubility of PO 4
3- in rock. This study aims to
find out the efficiency of continuously (upflow) waste treatment with phosphate
rock as the filter medium and assess the potential PO 4
3- dissolution of rock
phosphate in the liquid waste.
The materials used in this study were the tofu liquid waste taken from Desa
Gunung Sulah, Kecamatan Kedaton, Bandar Lampung, rock phosphate from
Lampung Tengah and chemicals such as NaOH, KI, HGI 2, and phosphate reagent.
The particle size of phosphate rock filter media ranged 3-5 mm and has a porosity
of 0,47. The liquid waste was continuously applied to the filter reactor at the flow
rate of 0,95 liters per day, in an upflow mode without recycle. The parameters
observed in the study included pH, TS, TSS, TFS, N-ammonium, phosphate, and
the production of biogas.
The results showed that the pH of the liquid waste increased from 3,94 to 5,5. TS,
TSS, TFS and each has been reduced by 33,97%, 36,67% and 25,81%. Nammonium
concentration increased by 382,69% from 68,24 mg/l to 329,38 mg/l.
The increase of N-ammonium concentration was because the product of N organic
decomposition in form of bacterial secretion during the filtration process.
Phosphate concentrations increased by 559,78% from 77,39 mg/l to 510,63 mg/l.
The increase of phosphate concentrations was likely due to dissolution of PO 4 3-
contained in the filter media by the acidic liquid waste. Biogas production
averaged 415 ml/day/liter of waste. High concentrations of TS, TSS, TFS, in the
effluent were normal, indicating that the effluent needed further treatments.
Phosphate and N-ammonium removal from water generally needed a sequencing
aerobic and anaerobic treatments.
