WRITING ABILITYThis research was aimed at: 1) to find out whether the use of textless comic can
improve students’ ability in writing narrative text, 2) to find out which aspects of
writing that can be improved by using textless comic.
This research was quantitative research which used one group pretest-posttest
design. The population of this research was the second year of science class
students of SMAN 1 Gadingrejo in the academic year 2014/2015. The sample of
this research was XI IPA 4 which consists of 31 students.
The data were analyzed by using T-test formula in SPSS 15.00 for windows. The
result of the research showed that there was an improvement of the students’
ability in writing narrative text after they were taught by using textless comic. It
could be seen from the result of the mean score from the pretest to the posttest,
59.46 to 75.96, with t-value 11.376 and the t-table 2.042. Specifically, textless
comic can improve five aspects of writing namely content, language use,
organization, vocabulary and mechanic. It was proven by the result of Paired
Sample T-Test, which showed that the value of two tail significant was less then α
(0.00 < 0.05).
Based on the data, it can be concluded that there was an improvement of the
students’ ability in writing ability narrative text from the pretest to the posttest.
Thus, referring to the result above, it can be said that textless comic is applicable
to improve students’ ability in writing narrative text.
