PREKURSOR ZEOLIT BERBASIS SILIKA SEKAM PADI
2008.

abstract
Pyrolysis of castor oil using zeolite precursor as catalyst was studied. Zeolite
precursor was prepared from rice husk silica sol and aluminium metal by
electrochemical method using different potentials of 8, 10, and 12 volt, and
reaction times of 1, 2, and 3 hours, to produce the samples with different Si/Al
ratios. The samples were then calcined at 600ºC,and tested as catalyst. The
results show that the higher the Si/Al ratio of the catalyst, the higher the yield of
the reaction. Liquid fuel was analyzed by GC-MS, and revealed that the liquid
fuel with the highest hydrocarbon content was obtained using Pre-Zeo8:1 calcined
at 800ºC with hydrocarbon content of 85.97%. The results of XRD
characterization show that Pre-Zeo8:1 with calcination temperature of 600ºC was
dominated by amorphous phase, but at higher temperatures of 800 and 900ºC, the
crystalline phases of albite and cristobalite were detected. However, complete
formation of zeolite was not displayed by the results. SEM characterization shows
that Pre-Zeo8:1 has heterogeneous surface morphology, and the existence of the
sample as porous material with the porosity influenced by the calcination
temperatures. FTIR spectrum shows that Pre-Zeo8:1 contains Brønsted-Lowry acid
site. The physical characterization indicates that the viscosity of liquid fuel
obtained fulfilled the requirement for viscosity based on SNI 7431-2008.
