DM Tipe 2.

abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders that share the
characteristic of hyperglycemia. Management of DM includes 4 fundamental aspects, one of
which is meal planning. One factor that plays a role in meal planning is breakfast. Skipping
breakfast can affect blood sugar levels of patients with DM. The purpose of this study is to
determine the correlation between breakfast and blood sugar control in type 2 DM patients.
Methods: The design of this study is analytical survey method with cross-sectional approach to
115 DM patients who participate in Prolanis. The data taken is primary data in the form of
fasting blood glucose (FBG) test results identified with glucometer and breakfast identified
with 3×24 hours food record form filling results.
Results: Out of 115 participants with DM, 41 participants (35%) was found to be doing full
breakfast with appropriate calories count, 46 participants (40%) was found to be doing full
breakfast with inappropriate calories count, and the remaining 28 (24%) was found to be not
doing full breakfast or not doing breakfast at all. The FPG test results showed that 47
participants (41%) had controlled FPG and the remaining 68 (59%) had uncontrolled FPG. Chi-
Square test results showed that there was correlation between breakfast and blood sugar level
control with p value of 0,00 (p<0,05).
Conclusions: There was no correlation between breakfast and FPG control in subjects with
type 2 DM.
