Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

ABSTRACT According to Heaton (1988: 141) writing basically is a language skill that is difficult and complex of the component because it has some crucial components, such as content, organization, vocabulary, grammar and mechanic. Therefore, it is uncommon that junior high school students find serious difficult in their writing. Robinson (1967: 2) defines guiding writing as “writing in which one cannot make serious errors as long as follows the directions. In this research, guiding questions were not only made by the teacher but also by the students in order to improve the students’ writing ability in a descriptive paragraph. The writer tries to find out whether there is any improvement of the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph after being taught by using Guiding Question Technique. This research was done to investigate the improvement of the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph by using Guiding Question Technique. This research was conducted based on experimental method. The instrument was writing test. The method was One Group Pre-test Post-test Design. The class was VIII.1. The subject was 30 students at the second grade of Junior High School Negeri 1 Gadingrejo, Pringsewu who random selection. The data were collected by administering pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed from the result of pre-test and post-test by using Paired Sample T-Test. The result showed that there was an improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph from pre-test up to post-test. The average score of pre-test was 54. 58. The result of the post-test was 73. 33 or there increased 18. 75. The result of computation shows that the value of two tailed significance is 0.00. It means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected since 0.00 < 0.05. It proves that Guiding Question Technique can improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph. The students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph will be better when they are taught by using Guiding Question Technique. The teacher is suggested to applying Guiding Question Technique to improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph.
