Abstrak Industri bioetanol menghasilkan bioetanol sebagai produk utama dan menghasilkan air limbah dalam jumlah yang besar konsentrasi tinggi. Industri bioetanol menggunakan sistem multiple feedstock menggunakan dua jenis bahan baku yaitu ubikayu dan molasses. Thinslop dan vinasse merupakan air limbah industri bioetanol berbahan baku ubi kayu dan molasses. Thinslop dan vinasse memiliki nilai COD yang tinggi sehingga dapat menurunkan kualitas lingkungan. Senyawa organik akan terdegradasi menjadi gas metana (CH4) dan karbondioksida yang ditandai dengan menurunnya nilai COD air limbah pada proses anaerobik. Gas metana tergolong gas rumah kaca yang dapat menurunkan kualitas udara dan memiliki indeks pemanasan 21 kali CO2. Thinslop dan vinasse berpotensi sebagai sumber gas rumah kaca terutama gas metana. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui potensi emisi gas rumah kaca dan mempelajari kemungkinan penerapan dalam mitigasi emisi gas rumah kaca di industri bioetanol. Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode studi literatur dan perhitungan Rahmawati menggunakan faktor-faktor emisi yang sudah disepakati secara global. Data hasil pengamatan disajikan dalam bentuk tabel dan grafik kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif. Berdasarkan perhitungan yang dilakukan, potensi emisi gas rumah kaca dari air limbah industri bioetanol berbahan baku molasses (4,66 ton CO2e/kL etanol) lebih besar dari pada potensi emisi gas rumah kaca dari air limbah industri biotanol berbahan baku ubikayu (0,91ton CO2e/kL etanol). Upaya mitigasi gas rumah kaca industri bioetanol berbahan baku ubikayu dan molasses dapat dilakukan dengan pemanfaatan air limbah menjadi sumber energi ramah lingkungan. Bioethanol industry applying multiple feedstock systems using two types of raw material those are cassava and molasses. Thinslop and vinasse are waste water from bioethanol industry with cassava and molasses as a raw material. Thinslop and vinasse have high COD value so it can decrease the quality of the environment. Organic compounds will be degradated into methane gas (CH4) and carbon dioxide which are showed by the decreasing COD value of the waste water in the anaerobic process. Methane is classified as greenhouse gas that can decrease air quality and has warming index 21 times higher than CO2’s. The treatment of thinslop and vinasse in open lagoons are potentially produce greenhouse gas, especially methane. The purpose of this research was to determine the potential of greenhouse gas emissions and to learn the possibility of applying the mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in the bioethanol industry. This research carried out by literature study and calculations Rahmawati using emission factors that have been agreed globally. The observation data were presented in table and graph then analyzed descriptively Based on the calculations, the potential of greenhouse gas emissions from waste water bioethanol industry with molasses materials (4.66 ton CO2e/kL ethanol) was higher than potential of greenhouse gas emissions using cassava materials (0.91 ton CO2e/kL ethanol). Greenhouse gas mitigation in bioethanol industry with cassava and molasses material were able to be done by utilising the waste water as the source of ecofriendly energy.
