ABSTRACT The size of 40 mesh and passes 40 mesh with composition ratio of cement and perlite (S:P) 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5 and 1:6 affect the physical properties andcompressive strength. The compressive strength test and the physical properties were performed before and after calcination at 1000°C. The results test showed that the optimum compressive strength was obtained on the mortar before it wascalcined with the size of pass 40 mesh in the 1:2 composition is 179.2 kg/cm which is the of M type mortar, supported by the small porosity physical properties of 10,36 %, and the absorption of 5.31 %. The smallest compressive strength wasobtained on the mortar after it was calcined with size of 40 mesh in the 1:6composition is 4,62 kg/cm 2 , supported by high porosity physical properties of 35,37 % and the absorption is 33,19 %. The compressive streght will decreaseafter sample is calcinated and sharply decreased with increases of perlitecomposition. Samples were characterized using XRF and XRD. The result of perlite XRF and XRD characterization showed that silica content was 57,06 %and quartz phase. The mortar characterization results indicate the presence ofcalcium and silica content in the form of quartz and calcite phases, whereas aftercalcination is a wollastonite-2M phase. Keywords: perlite, mortar, physical properties, compressive strength, XRF, XRD. 2
