Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is a class of multivariate techniques that combine aspects of factor analysis and regression, meanwhile partial least square is soft modeling approach to SEM without any assumptions about data distribution and minimal number of observation that often called as PLS SEM. The purpose of this study is to determine the factors affecting human development index in Lampung Province in 2016 and to determine the influence of each factors towards the human development index using SEM-PLS. The results of this research show that economy and education influence the human development index significantly. Key words: partial least square, human development index, latent variable Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) adalah analisis multivariat yang menggabungkan analisis faktor dan regresi, sedangkan Partial Least Square adalah pendekatan soft modeling pada SEM yang tidak memiliki asumsi sebaran data dan jumlah minimal amatan yang sering disebut dengan PLS SEM. Tujuan dari penlitian ini adalah untuk menentukan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi indeks pembangunan manusia di Provinsi Lampung tahun 2016 dan juga menghitung besarnya pengaruh dari masing-masing faktor terhadap indeks pembangunan manusia. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ekonomi dan pendidikan mempunyai pengaruh langsung yang signifikan Kata kunci: partial least square, indeks pembangunan manusia, variable laten
