Advances in technology have attracted attention to the research on the biological effects of their use, such as the use of microwave ovens has increased among the public. Radiation effects on the fetus in the womb very depend on the gestational age, dose and dose ratereceived. A teratogen working on embryos in embryotoxic dose range can result in growth inhibition, malformations, even to the intrauterine death. The purpose of this study was to know the effect of exposure to microwave oven on the mother of mice (Mus musculus L.) during the pregnancy on fetal mice front extremities malformations. This study was an experimental test, with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) using adult mice (Mus musculus L.) which were exposed to microwave oven with a frequency of 2.450MHz with a distance of 0.5 cm. This study used 20 mice, divided into 4 groups treated with five repetitions for each. The group consists of female mice that had been known to be pregnant microwave oven exposure for 0 min (K), 15 minutes (P1), 30 minutes (P2), and 45minutes (P3) per day for 18 days gestation. Quantitative data were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis test followed by Mann-Whitney Post Hoc. The results of this research were; the average length of the front extremities (K) 2.14±0.422 mm, (P1) 2.12±0.352 mm, (P2) 1.64±0.149 mm, (P3) 1.59±0.391 mm. The obtained value from Kruskal-Wallis test results in this study was of p<0.05 is p=0.000, which means there are at least two sets of data have different average meaning. It was concluded that microwave oven exposure on the mother mice (Mus musculus L.) during pregnancy causes fetal malformations front extremities of mice (Mus musculus L.) such as shortening of metacarpus. .
