Abstract

Listening comprehension remains a challenging skill for Indonesian EFL learners, particularly in understanding spoken English in real-time contexts. The objective of this research is to examine whether there is a significant improvement in students' listening skills after the students had been taught using English song lyrics with synchronized text through Musixmatch. Twenty-nine eleventh-grade students from class XI TJKT 2 at SMK N 1 Bandar Lampung participated in three treatment sessions over three weeks, using selected English songs with synchronized lyrics displayed through Musixmatch. Data were collected using a 30-item listening comprehension test administered before and after the treatment. The results showed a significant improvement in students' listening skills, with the mean score increasing from 73.83 (pre-test) to 82.28 (post-test), representing a gain of 8.90 points. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed a statistically significant difference (p < .001), with 96.55% of students showing positive improvement. The normalized gain score of 0.3129 indicated medium effectiveness of the treatment. The findings demonstrate that using English song lyrics through Musixmatch significantly enhances students' listening comprehension skills. This media offers an engaging and effective alternative for EFL teachers to improve listening instruction in classroom settings.
