Abstrak

The objective of this research was to find out whether there issignificant different of students’ vocabulary achievement in pretest and posttest after being taught through picture series and there is improvement of students’ vocabulary achievementafter being taught through picture series at the second year of SMPN 01Tanjung Raja. This research was conducted based on the problems faced by the second year students of SMPN 01Tanjung Raja North Lampung. The design used in this research was one group pretest posttest. The population of this research isthe second grade students of SMPN 01 Tanjung Raja academic year 2015/2016.The sample is class 8A whichconsist of 30 students in one class. The data which were collected from vocabulary test in form multiple choices and were analyzed using SPSS 17 for windows. The result of the research shows that there wassignificant difference of students’ vocabulary achievementin pretest and posttest after being taught through picture series at the second year students of SMPN 01Tanjung Raja. There is improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement from pretest to posttest. The mean score of pretest was 54.00 and posttest was 80.16. It means that there was a significant improvement of students’ vocabulary achievement after being taught through picture series. Based on the results above, it could be concluded that picture series could be used to improve students’ vocabulary achievement. Keywords:teaching vocabulary, picture series, vocabulary achievement
