ABSTRACT This research was conducted to describe the assertive speech act of the teacher and students, and also the modesty of the assertive speech act of the teacher and students on Indonesian language learning process in the classroom at SMPN 17 Pesawaran on academic year 2016/2017. The formulation of the problem was: how the assertive speech act of the teacher on Indonesian language learning process at grade IX at SMPN 17 Pesawaran on academic year 2016/2017 and how the assertive speech act of the students on Indonesian language learning process at grade IX at SMPN 17 Pesawaran on academic year 2016/2017. This research also aimed to find out how was the implication of assertive speech act on Indonesian language learning process at junior high school? The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were assertive speech of teacher and students that happened during the learning process of Indonesian languange. The data collecting technique used in this research were observation, bebas libat cakap technique, and field note. The data analysis technique used in this research was heuristics analysis technique. The result of the research showed that the assertive speech of the teacher involving declare, inform, recommend, boast, complain, and demand. On the other hand, the assertive speech of students involving declare, inform, recommend, boast, complain, demand and report. This research had an implication on Indonesian language learning at SMP which can be used as learning source one of them is on standard competency expressing idea, feeling, and information through discussion and protocol. Basic competence delivering agreement, refutation, and rejection of idea in discussion delivered with proof and reason. Keywords: assertive speech act ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mendeskripsikan wujud tindak tutur asertif guru dan siswa pada proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di kelas IX SMP Negeri 17 Pesawaran tahun pelajaran 2016/2017 dan implikasinya dalam pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di SMP. Rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimanakah tindak tutur asertif guru pada proses pembelajaran di kelas IX SMP Negeri 17 Pesawaran tahun pelajaran 2016/2017, bagaimanakah tindak tutur asertif siswa pada proses pembelajaran di kelas IX SMP Negeri 17 Pesawaran tahun pelajaran 2016/2017. Penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimanakah implikasi tindak tutur asertif pada proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia di SMP? Metode penelitian ini deskriptif kualitatif. Data berupa tindak tutur asertif guru dan siswa yang terjadi pada proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia.Teknik pengumpulan data dengan teknik observasi, teknik bebas libat cakap, dan catatan lapangan. Analisis data dilakukan dengan teknik analisis heuristik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa wujud tindak tutur asertif guru dalam proses pembelajaran meliputi tindak tutur menyatakan, memberitahukan, menyarankan, membanggakan, mengeluh, dan menuntut. Wujud tindak tutur asertif siswa meliputi tindak tutur menyatakan, memberitahukan, menyarankan, membanggakan, mengeluh, menuntut, dan melaporkan. Hasil penelitian ini berimplikasi pada pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di SMP yang digunakan sebagai sumber pembelajaran salah satunya pada Standar Kompetensi Kata Kunci: tindak tutur asertif
