Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

ABSTRACT The aims of this research were to find out whether there was a significant improvement in the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 3 Lampung Selatan before and after being taught by using pre-questioning technique and to find out the students’ perceptions toward the technique. The population of this study was the eighth grade students of MTs Negeri 3 Lampung Selatan. The researcher took VIII B as the try-out class and VIII D as the experimental class. Reading comprehension test and questionnaire were used to collect the data. The data were in the forms of scores which were taken from the pre test and post test and they were analyzed by using Paired Sample T-test. Meanwhile, the questionnaire was analyzed by using Guttman Scale. The result of the data analysis showed that the use of pre-questioning technique improved students’ reading comprehension achievement. It could be seen from the mean score of the students in the pre test and post test. In the pre test, the mean score was 50.24 and it became 70.12 in the post test. Thus, the gain was 19.88. The result of computation showed that t-ratio was higher than t-table (17.587>2.060) and the significant level was lower than 0.05 (0.000<0.05). Considering the questionnaire which was distributed to the students, it showed that they have positive perception toward pre-questioning technique. It could be concluded that the use of pre-questioning technique is appropriate to be used in order to improve students’ achievement of reading comprehension and it can be used as an alternative technique.
