Abstrak

English is important in our country. We may consider one of the objective of English instruction is to give the students knowledge which can be used as a means to continue their study at colleges or universities. As we know many kind of books are written in English, which can suport their skills such as listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Based on the preliminary research at the eleventh class of SMA Mulia Plus Lampung Selatan, the writer found that students are difficult to comprehend the texts and get information from the texts. The writer also found that the teacher needs to be increased his teaching technique. To solve the problem above, the writer is interested in implementing and Developing Student Teams-Achievement Divisions (STAD) based on extrovert and introvert personality. The objectives of this research are to know the average score of the students who are taught of Students Teams-Achievement Divisions higher than who are taught communicative technique, and to know the influence of Students Teams-Achievement Divisions towards students’ reading ability. In this research, the writer used experimental method. The sample was taken by using total sampling technique. In data collecting technique, it was used objective test that is multiple choice test. And in data analysis, the writer used formula as follows: Based on the data analysis ttest in testing t ratio = 3.15 ≥ t table = 2.00. It means that tratio ≥ ttable, so there is significant influence of student teams-achievement divisions towards students reading ability, and can increase students’ reading ability.
