Spent bleaching earth (SBE), byproducts of biodiesel production, has the potential to become a bleaching agent for the process of bleaching palm oil after reactivation. The most commonly used reactivation methods is acid activation followed by heating. This study aimed to determine the best type of acid and optimum acid concentration to produce activated bleaching earthwhich was in accordance with SNI 13-6336-2000. This study was arranged in a factorial Complete Group Randomized Design (CGRD) with three replications. The treatment consisted of two factors, namely the type of acid (hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, and sulfuric acid) and acid concentration (3%, 5%, and 7%). The data obtained were analyzed for the similarity of variance with the Bartlett test and the addition of the data tested by the Tuckey test, then the data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance to find out the estimation of various errors and the significance test to determine the effect between treatments. Data were also analyzed further using Orthogonal Polynomials and Orthogonal Comparisons. The results showed that the best treatment was the treatment of nitric acid with a acid concentration of 7% (J2K3) which resulted in an RBE yield of 69.75%, with RBE characteristics including RBE water content was 3.08%, pH RBE was 5.82, RBE ash content was 90.32%, the efficiency of CPO color bleaching was 4.07%, and RBPO yield was 86.82%.
