Abstrak

In this study, it has been carried out producing of activated carbon from palm oil shell activated by physical activation (CAF), chemical activation (CAFK), and then continued by coating technique with magnetite particles to obtain magnetite physical activated carbon (CAFM) and magnetite chemical activated carbon (CAFKM). The adsorbents were used to adsorption-desorption methylene blue dyes and crystal violet in solution. The carbon activation was performed by physics activation at temperature of 700 ºC for 1 hour and chemical activation was performed using H3PO4 10 % activator agent. The production of magnetite physical activated carbon (CAFM) and magnetite chemical activated carbon (CAFKM) by using magnetite particles coating technique used the mixture of FeCl3·6H2O and FeSO4·7H2O. The yields were characterized by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) to identify crystalline phase, Scanning Electron MicroscopeEnergy Dispersive X-Ray (SEM-EDX) to determine the surface morphology and constituents of elements in activated carbon, as well as Brunaeur-Emmet-Teller (BET) surface area to investigate the specific surface area of activated carbon. The adsorption process of methylene blue dyes and crystal violet were carried out by CAF, CAFK, CAFM, and CAFKM adsorbents respectively. The desorption process performed with aquades, mixture of ethanol +acetic acid 0.1 M 1:1, and mixture of ethanol+HCl 0,1 M 1:1 as eluen. The desorption result showed that mixture of ethanol+HCl 0,1 M 1:1 have greater % desorption value than mixture of ethanol +acetic acid 0.1 M 1:1 as eluen. Keywords: adsorption, desorption, activated carbon, magnetite coating, methylene blue, crystal violet.
