Background: Patients with HIV / AIDS with low level of CD4 + will be at risk of developing opportunistic infections in the eye, especially infections of the retina. Opportunistic infections of the retina in patients with HIV / AIDS are often found, including cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMV), necrotizing herpetic retinitis, and toxoplasmosis chorioretinitis and retinopathy due to HIV infection. Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of CD4+ levels with the incidence of retinitis in patients with HIV / AIDS who received antiretroviral treatment at Abdul Moeloek Lampung Hospital. Method: This study used an analytical survey method with a cross sectional approach. The amount of sample in this study are 30 respondents, who were patients at the Volluntary Counseling and Testing (VCT) Clinic at Abdul Moeloek Hospital were taken by purposive sampling method. Results: This study was conducted in 30 patients with HIV / AIDS who received antiretroviral treatment at the Volluntary Counseling and Testing Clinic (VCT) Abdul Moeloek Lampung Hospital. Based on observations, 3 respondents (10%) found retinitis with CD4+ <50 cell / µL and 27 respondents (90%) found no retinitis with CD4+ >50 cells / µL. Variables related to the incidence of retinitis in patients with HIV / AIDS were patients with CD4 + <50 cells / µL of 3 respondents (p value 0,000) and no retinitis was found in patients with CD4 +> 50 cells // µL. Conclusion: CD4+ levels <50 cell/µL are associated with the incidence of retinitis in patients with HIV / AIDS at Abdul Moeloek Hospital Lampung. Keywords: CD4+ levels, HIV / AIDS, retinitis.
