Abstrak

The objective of this research was to find out whether there was an improvement in students’ speaking ability after being taught using information gap tasks at MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung. This research was conducted at the second-grade students of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2019/2020. There were 9 classes in the second grade of MTs Negeri 2 Bandar Lampung and each class consisted of 25 students. The researcher chose VIII G and VIII H. This research used one group pretest-posttest design by giving the pre-test, treatments, and the post-test. The instrument used to get the data in this research was a speaking test. The t-test was used to test the hypothesis. The result of the hypothesis test proved that using information gap tasks can improve students’ speaking ability. It can be seen from the mean score of the pre- test and post-test which were analyzed through SPSS 16.00. The mean score of the VIII G pre-test was 49 and it was improved to 57,5 in the post-test and the gain was 8,5. While the mean score of the VIII H pre-test was 50,7 and it was improved to 59,7 in the post-test and the gain was 9. It can be said that using information gap tasks can improve students’ speaking ability. Keywords: improving, speaking, information gap tasks
