Abstract
Small group discussion is a technique that can be applied in teaching speaking learning. In small group discussion, the students can express their ideas or opinions each other. The aim of this research was to find out the improvement of students‟ speaking skill after applying Small group discussion in teaching and learning speaking among the eleventh grade students of SMA Al-Azhar 3 Bandar Lampung. The design of this research was the one- group pretest-post test design which consisted of four meetings. The subject of the research was the students of class XI IPS 1 which consisted of 26 students. The instrument of this research was a test. There were two tests; pre-test and post-test. The result of students‟ speaking skill after analyzing pre-test and post-test score showed that the improvement of speaking students‟ with the gain score 2,62. Teaching speaking through small group discussion with fun learning and interaction could improve students‟ speaking skill based on the analysis of the test result.
