Abstrak Bahasa Indonesia Rumput laut Kappaphycus alvarezii memiliki potensi yang sangat baik untuk budidaya. Bibit rumput laut yang berkualitas mempengaruhi hasil produksi dalam budidaya. Bibit rumput laut kultur jaringan memiliki kualitas yang baik dibandingkan dengan rumput laut alami, namun bibit rumput laut kultur jaringan masih didatangkan dari daerah tertentu. Media dan periode transportasi berperan dalam menjaga kesegaran bibit. Penelitian yang dilakukan untuk mengetahui media transportasi yang efektif, dan periode transportasi yang optimal. Penelitian dilakukan di perairan Ketapang, Lampung Selatan. Penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimental dengan rancangan acak lengkap faktorial dengan dua perlakuan dan tiga ulangan pada setiap perlakuan. Perlakuan pertama yaitu perbedaan media transportasi (pelepah pisang dan spon), dan perlakuan kedua yaitu perbedaan periode transportasi (24, 48, dan 72 jam). Parameter yang diamati suhu transportasi, tingkat kesegaran bibit, pertumbuhan berat rumput laut, serta kualitas perairan selama pemeliharaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rumput laut yang ditransportasikan dengan media pelepah pisang memiliki tingkat kesegaran bibit dan pertumbuhan bobot lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan media spon, dan periode transportasi mempengaruhi tingkat kesegaran dan pertumbuhan bobot rumput laut. Abstrak Bahasa Inggris Brown seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) is one of the important aquaculture commodities in Indonesia. Tissue culture seaweed seed has higher quality than the natural ones, but tissue culture seaweed seed still imported from a specific county. Media and transportation period effect the seed freshness. The study was conducted to determine the effective of transportation medium and the optimal of transportation period. The study was conducted in the Ketapang’s marine, South Lampung. The study using experimental methods with completely randomized factorial design with two treatments and three replication for each treatment. The first treatment is the difference transport media (banana stem and sponge), and the second treatment is the difference transport period (24, 48, and 72 hours). The parameters observed were transport temperature, the seed freshness, seaweed growth wight, and water quality factor (pH, dissolved oksigen, salinity, temperature, water clarity, and flow velocity). The results showed that the seaweed was transported by the media banana stem had seed freshness and weight growth higher quality than the sponge media, and the transportation period affected the seed freshness and the weight seaweed growth.
