This research purposes to analyse the violation of the maxims of politeness in the film La Vie Scolaire by Grand Corps Malade and Mehdi Idir. La Vie Scolaire portrays social interaction in a multicultural school environment and features various forms of speech that violate the principle of politeness. This research aims to answer the following questions: (1) How do the forms of violation of politeness maxims appear in the film La Vie Scolaire, and (2) How do the results of the analysis imply for French language learning? This research uses descriptive qualitative method with data in the form of speech between characters in the film. The data collection technique is conducted through observation and recording, while the data analysis technique uses matching and distributional methods. The results of the research indicates that there are 44 utterances that consist of violations of the maxims of politeness in La Vie Scolaire, they are: approbation maxim, agreement maxim, tact maxim, modesty maxim, symphaty maxim, generosity maxim, feeling reticence maxim and opinion reticence maxim. This research suggests that films can be used as French language learning materials. The use of films as learning media is capable to lead the students to understand the social context of language use as well as to improve their communicative competence. The learning implication is in line with CECRL standards at B1 to B2 levels and can be implemented in French classes for general as well as in academic contexts in oral classes.
