The research was conducted to convert methyl ester rubber seed oil into nitrogen compound using zeolite-Y catalyst with the reflux method. Methyl ester obtained through the transesterification process of rubber seed oil with methanol and zeolite-Y catalyst which was refluxed at temperature of 70°C for 6 hours. The nitrogen compound was obtained through an amidation reaction by preparing 3 samples based on methyl ester from rubber seed oil and diethanolamine with varying ratios of 1:1, 1.5:1, and 2:1 using the reflux method at temperature of 160°C for 3 hours. The amidation product obtained was characterized using GC-MS and FTIR, and then used as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in CO2 saturated 3% NaCl solution using wheel test method. The surface morphology of the mild steels were characterized using SEM. GC-MS results of methyl esters show that rubber seed oil has been converted into ester compounds consisting of 9 types of methyl esters with the highest composition being methyl linoleate with 29.51%. While the amidation product at ratio variation of 1:1 contains nitrogen compounds of 32.72%. The results of FTIR analysis show that rubber seed oil has been converted into methyl ester shown at wave number 1744 cm-1 which is the C=O ester stretching vibration. Furthermore, methyl esters have been converted into amide groups as indicated by the wave number 1617 cm-1 which is the vibration of the C = O amide group and is reinforced by the presence of C-N groups at wave numbers 1118 cm-1 and 1053 cm-1 . The results of corrosion inhibitor testing on the three amidation samples showed protection percentage results of 95.86% (ratio 1:1), 91.37% (ratio 1.5:1) and 90.47% (ratio 2:1). The highest percentage of protection is shown by the sample with a 1:1 ratio variation and is supported by SEM analysis which shows that the mild steel morphology is well protected. Based on the results obtained in this research, it is showed that nitrogen compound derived from rubber seed oil have the potential to act as green corrosion inhibitors.
