Abstract
This descriptive research aimed to know the difference of student’s problem solving skill which used problem based learning and cooperative learning of STAD type. The population of this research was all students of grade 10th of SMAN 2 Pringsewu in academic year of 2013/2014 that was distributed into nine classes. The samples of this research were students of X IPA 4 and X IPA 5 class. The conclusion of this research was student’s mathematical problem solving skill which used cooperative learning STAD of type was higher than problem based learning. Penelitian deskriptif ini bertujuan mengetahui perbedaan kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang menggunakan problem based learning dan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas X SMAN 2 Pringsewu tahun pelajaran 2013/2014 yang terdistribusi dalam sembilan kelas. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X IPA 4 dan X IPA 5. Kesimpulan penelitian ini adalah kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa yang menggunakan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe STAD lebih tinggi dari pada problem based learning. Kata Kunci : problem based learning, kooperatif tipe STAD, kemampuan pemecahan masalah matematis
