The sampling technique was purposive sampling and data were collected through pre-test and post-test in the form of written tests. Data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test with a significant level of 0.05. The results of the pre-test average value was 52.61 and post-test value was 81.16. the gain value obtained was 28.55. This can be seen from the significant value of the test which is lower that alpha 0.00 < 0.05. The results showed that there was significant increase between pre-test and post-test after the students were taught by using Genre-Based Approach; Building Knowledge of Field (BKoF), Modeling of Text (MoT), Joint Construction of Text (JCoT), and Independent Construction of text (ICoT).
