Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

Writing can be said as a complicated process because writing has some crucial components covering content, organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanic. Therefore, it is uncommon that students that are belonged to pre-intermediate learners still find serious difficult in their writing. Furthermore, this fact is in line with Badudu (1985:7) who states that even though students have learnt English in years, they still find difficulties to express their ideas in proper words or sentences. In this research, the students used artwork in order to improve their aspects in descriptive paragraph by remembering and understanding the aspects such as vocabulary of the material of their artwork to be made into their paragraph. This study tries to find out whether there is any improvement of the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph or other effects after being taught by using artwork. The objective of this research was to find out the influence of using artwork in students’ descriptive writing ability. The sample of this research was one class of first grade students at SMAN in Bandar Lampung. This research used one group pretest and post-test design. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed from the result of pre-test and post-test by using Paired Simple Ttest. The result showed that there was an improvement of students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph from pre-test up to post-test. The average score of pre-test was 73.08. The result of the post-test was 77.41 or there was increase 4.33 points. The result of computation shows that the value of two tailed significance is 0.00. It means that H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected since 0.00 < 0.05. It proves that using artwork in learning descriptive writing makes improvements toward the students’ writing ability. The students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph will be better when they are taught by using artwork. The teacher is suggested to use artwork to improve the students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph.
