Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)
This study aims to obtain (1) format of lesson plan using role play to improve the students’ speaking ability in narrative text; (2) the form of learning implementation using role play to express students’ speaking ability in narrative text; (3) system of speaking learning evaluation in narrative text by using role play; and (4) the increase of students’ skills to speak in narrative text by using the appropriate role play. This research used CAR model consisting of three cycles. Stories in fable form were utilized in the first cycle, fairy tales were utilized in the second cycle, and free form of narrative was utilized in the third cycle. The research instruments were scoring sheet guidelines for speaking aspects and observation. The results showed that (1) the syntax of lesson plan designed by using role play consisting three steps, i.e. preparation, implementation, and follow-up; (2) learning implementation using role play was best done through teacher’s participation: learning preparation, material organization used in teaching narrative text through role play by utilizing stories in fables, fairy tales, and free form of narrative, learning evaluation; as well as students’ participation in expressing ideas, answering and asking questions, role playing using correct words and tense; (3) evaluation system by using the scoring guidelines for Speaking Aspects in Narrative using Role Play Method; (4) students’ speaking skills in narrative text by using role play increased, i.e. 58% in the first cycle, 74.5% in the second cycle, and 86.5% in the third cycle. Keywords: narrative text, role play, speaking Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh (1) format RPP metode role play untuk peningkatan kemampuan speaking siswa dalam teks berbentuk narrative, (2) bentuk pelaksanaan pembelajaran speaking dengan metode role play dalam teks berbentuk narrative, (3) sistem evaluasi untuk pembelajaran speaking dalam teks berbentuk narrative dengan metode role play, dan (4) peningkatan keterampilan speaking siswa dalam teks berbentuk narrative menggunakan metode role play yang tepat. Penelitian ini menggunakan model PTK yang terbagi menjadi tiga siklus pada siswa kelas XI IPA 1 dan XI IPA 2 SMA Negeri 1 Kotabumi. Siklus I dengan media naskah cerita berbentuk fable, siklus II dengan media naskah cerita berbentuk fairy tales, dan siklus III dengan media naskah cerita berbentuk bebas. Instrumen penelitian berupa pedoman penskoran aspek speaking dan panduan observasi. Berdasarkan hasil yang diperoleh dapat ditarik beberapa kesimpulan, yaitu: (1) Sintak RPP yang dirancang metode role play meliputi tiga tahap, yaitu persiapan, pleaksanaan, dan tindak lanjut, (2) pelaksanaan pembelajaran dengan metode role play yang baik memerlukan peran aktif guru yang meliputi penyiapan pembelajaran, pengorganisasian materi teks narrative dengan metode role play yang menggunakan media naskah cerita fabel, fairy tales, dan teks narrative bebas sampai penilaian hasil belajar, serta peran aktif siswa dalam mengemukakan pendapat, menjawab dan mengajukan pertanyaan, berlatih bermain peran dengan melafalkan dan menggunakan kata dan tense yang benar, (3) sistem evaluasi dengan Pedoman Penskoran Aspek Speaking pada Teks Narrative dengan Menggunakan Metode Role Play, dan (4) keterampilan siswa dalam berbicara pada teks berbentuk narrative dengan menggunakan metode role play meningkat, yakni pada siklus I sebesar 58%, pada siklus II sebesar 74,5%, dan pada siklus III sebesar 86,5%.
