Abstrak (Berisi Bastraknya saja, Judul dan Nama Tidak Boleh di Masukan)

Background of the reseach is the low of students activity and the low of social and environment awareness. The purpose of research is to improve learning process which is done teacher through implementation of problem based learning model to develop social and environment awareness through Social Science learning at VIII.5 grade of SMP Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung academic year 2012-2013. The method of research used Classroom Action research (CAR) which is done by using cycles, every cycle used four steps that is: planning, action, observation, reflection. The data was gotten by collecting observation, documentation, questionnaire and used analysis descriptive qualitative technique. Students criteria was assumed success when the implementation learning activity process can be called good until very good in developing of social anf environment awareness, which can be seemed through the fact result daily activity. The result of research shown that the implementation of Problem Based learning Model can: 1) to improve students activity in asking questions, answer or respect the question, writing/ note, reading, listening/ teacher attention, group work in learning, getting the information, taking conclusion to solve the problem, group work together, appreciate other opinions and receive the awards, it it has achieved > 75 %). To improve students ability in developing social and environment care which can be seen from the implementation of daily activity by taking care to social and environment, if it has achieved > 75%. Keywords: Problems Based Learning, social and environment awareness Latar belakang penelitian ini adalah rendahnya aktivitas belajar siswa dan rendahnya kepedulian sosial dan lingkungan hidup. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk perbaikan proses pembelajaran dilakukan oleh guru dengan melaksanakan penerapan model Problem Based Learning untuk mengembangkan kepedulian sosial dan lingkungan hidup dalam pembelajaran IPS di SMP Negeri 14 Bandar Lampung pada kelas VIII.5 tahun pelajaran 2012-2013. Metode Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (Classroom Action Research) yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan tiga siklus, setiap siklus dilaksanakan tiga kali pertemuan dengan menggunakan empat langkah tindakan yakni: perencanaan (planning), tindakan (action), pengamatan (observation) dan renungan (reflection). Data didapat dengan cara dari mengumpulkan melalui pengamatan (observation), dokumentasi (documentation), angket (questionnaire) dan menggunakan teknik analisis deskripsi kualitatif. Kriteria siswa dikatakan berhasil dalam melakukan aktivitas proses kegiatan pembelajaran dapat dinyatakan dengan hasil baik sampai baik sekali dalam mengembangkan kepedulian sosial dan lingkungan hidup, yang dapat dilihat dari hasil nyata dalam kebiasaan kehidupan sehari-hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan model Problem Based Learning dapat: (1) meningkatkan aktivitas siswa dalam mengajukan pertanyaan, menjawab/menanggapi pertanyaan, menulis/mencatat, membaca, mendengarkan/ memperhatikan guru, bekerja dalam kelompok belajar, menggali informasi, mengambil keputusan dalam pemecahan masalah, kerjasama dalam kelompok, menghargai pendapat orang lain dan menerima penghargaan; (2) meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam mengembangkan kepedulian sosial dan lingkungan hidup, yang dapat dilihat dari penerapan kehidupan sehari-hari dengan kebiasaan menjaga lingkungan hidup dan kepedulian sosial.
